Chuck and I met as he was covering the Cats for the Herald-Leader in Lexington. We got to know each other better as he, Mark Coomes (known from previous Cameron Mills Radio shows and Insider Louisville) and I palled around a bit in Italy when the team traveled there in 1995. Since then he has become a world traveler as Matthew Vita writes, Chuck as covered…”camel racing in the United Arab Emirates, soccer in Rwanda, sailing in South Africa, cricket in India and kiteboarding in the Middle East. He’s been based in London for the Los Angeles Times, Abu Dhabi for The National and, most recently, in New York for Sports on Earth.”
Most, most recently he landed a sweet gig at the Washington Post, no doubt using the same desks on which names like Kornheiser & Wilbon became household names (at least at my house). Chuck will cover college football for The Post but we will talk to him about more on Saturday. The man has been around the world, we have a 1000 questions for him but we will most likely start with a fantastic, thought provoking one like…”Dude, do you think you will ever get to be on PTI?”
Here is his most recent writing where he discusses my beloved Seminoles and their, uh, less than wise quarterback.
BTW, before anyone bothers to point this out, I am well aware that The Washington Post has produced some other writers of renown not related to sports celebrity. Quite a few have won Pulitzers and a couple even brought down a President, Millard Fillmore I think it was.
