What You Need to Know About Marshall Co. Hoop Fest

One of Kentucky’s top basketball recruiting targets — wing John Petty of Alabama — will play twice in the Marshall County Hoop Fest in Benton in December.

The 6-5 Petty has been a top target for coach John Calipari for two years and plays for Mae Jemison, a new school in Huntsville, Ala.His team will  play against Aspire Academy of Arizona Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. CST and then take on Paul Laurence Dunbar Dec. 3. Taveion Hollingsworth averaged 21 points per game last year for Dunbar and led the team to a state title. The Dunbar guard already has scholarship offers from West Virginia and Cincinnati and strong interest from several teams, including Western Kentucky.The nation’s No. 1 player in the 2017 recruiting class, DeAndre Ayton of Hillcrest Prep in Arizona, will be back. The 7-0 center has verbally committed to Arizona. Other elite players in the 2017 recruiting class include Gary Trent of Prolific Prep in California and Billy Preston of Oak Hill Academy in Virginia.
