When Australian native Isaac Humphries joined the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team, he seemed destined to be a fan favorite. After all, who could resist that smooth Aussie accent?
Humphries was attending high school in Indiana and was ranked as the 43rd best prospect in the class of 2016. But Isaac chose to reclassify and selected the University of Kentucky as the place to best further his basketball career and arrived on campus in the fall of 2015.
After two seasons with limited playing time (averaging 8.6 minutes per game), Humphries chose to leave school and pursue a professional basketball career. Ironically, his best game as a Wildcat (versus UNC in the NCAA Tournament, scoring 12 points and grabbing 5 rebounds) turned out to be his last game wearing the blue.
The Big Blue Nation was excited when, after having not been selected by any team during the NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards signed Isaac for their summer league team. The BBN’s excitement was short-lived however when Washington cut Humphries before league play began.
Thursday, Humphries and the BBN got a dose of good news though:
So happy for @IsaacHumphries7, who has signed with the Sydney Kings. Isaac is just 19 years old! Can't wait to see him continue to grow.

Since Isaac grew up in a suburb of Sydney, he will be returning to familiar territory as he joins the Kings. I know the fans are cheering him on and wishing him the best of luck as he begins this new chapter in his life.
