Stoops Has A Few Good Men and a 5-0 Record

By: Michele Brown

Mark Stoops has endured a lot during his time at Kentucky.  From impatient fans to some repetitive media questions over the previous 5 seasons, Stoops has had to answer to a lot of folks about a lot of things.  Some tired of hearing him say “We need to get back to work” or some of his other pat responses.  After defeating South Carolina Saturday night for the 5th season in a row and improving the Cats’ record to 5-0, I suddenly had an image of Stoops on the witness stand explaining to fans and media alike that his methods were indeed successful.  All he needed was a few good men.   And so, with a wink and a nod to the movie, A Few Good Men, and a late night Photoshop project that Lori Mills (@lori_mills) did for me, I give you my version of the speech Mark Stoops may very well have silently given over the past few seasons:

“You want answers?  You can’t handle the truth!  Son, we live in a world that has doors, and those doors need to be knocked down with men wearing helmets.  Who’s gonna do it?  You, Michele Brown?  I have a greater responsibility than you can fathom.  You weep for South Carolina and you curse the SEC.   You have that luxury.  You have the luxury of not knowing what I know, that last year’s loss to Florida while tragic, probably won games for us this season; and my existence, while maddening and incomprehensible to you, wins games.

You don’t want the answers because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me knocking down those doors.  You need me knocking down those doors.   We use words like “All in”, “Get to Work”, “Change the Game”, and “Get Up.”   We use these words as the backbone of a team spent defending something, you use them as a punchline. I have neither the time, nor the inclination to explain myself, to a group of people who rise and sleep, under the blanket of the winning football program that I provide, and then question the manner in which I provide it!  I’d rather you just said ‘thank you’, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you put on a helmet and play a game.  Either way, I don’t give a damn, what you think you are entitled to!

Yes, seven games remain on our schedule.  Yes, next weekend at Texas A&M will be a huge challenge.  But for now, celebrate our undefeated Cats and enjoy the ride!
