With the One and Done Era, it has become unusual to have a Senior Night especially at the University of Kentucky where Coach Cal has flourished with a new crop of players each year. But on Saturday against Florida in their last game at Rupp Arena, Jonny David and Reid Travis were honored before the game. Coach Cal gushed over his seniors during the Media Day held Friday at Joe Craft.
On Reid Travis:
”(He) comes here to say, ’I want to grow. I want to grow on and off the court.’… Without Reid, we would not be sitting here where we are right now, with a chance to do something special… He’s a joy to coach…”
On Jonny David:
”Jonny came here as a preferred walk-on… We’ve scholarshiped him, well-deserved, earned scholarships… He’s grown. He’s added to this progeam. He’s left his mark. Congratulations, Jonny.”
Jonny David was available to discuss the impact playing at UK has had on them.
Jonny David on playing at UK:
”Its something that’s special about BBN. They have a love for me and kind of support me. There are not really words to describe it, it’s just something that happens. It makes my day, makes everything. It’s something special. Only here.”
Defense and attacking the rim seemed to be the keys to the game. The Cats won the battle on the boards 39-23 and had 3 steals for the game.
Even though it was Senior Night, it was a sophomore and a freshmen that helped lead the young Cats to a 66-57 victory over the Gators. PJ Washington finished the game with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 assist in 38 minutes. He only had 2 fouls in the game after having been in foul trouble the past few games. Tyler Herro finished the game with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal in 38 minutes of work.
