With Nate Sestina out for an undisclosed amount of time, the other Bigs needed to step up to fill the void. Well, Montgomery and Richards stepped up in a big way. (Yes- the pun was intended.)
In 28 minutes of work, Nick Richards had 16 points on 7 for 7 shooting and pulled down 9 rebounds. He was 2-4 from the free throw line. He ended up with 4 fouls or he may have contributed even more for the Cats against UAB. Richards seemed poised and determined to show BBN that he is ready to be the anchor for a highly talented young team.
While Richards has been playing consistently over the past few games, Montgomery has been plagued with injury woes and BBN has been unsettled with how he would be able to contribute to the team after coming back. As Hagans said “This was his (Montgomery) bounce back game.” Montgomery finished the game with 16 points on 7 for 13 shooting, pulled down 7 rebounds, and was a perfect 2 for 2 from the stripe. Playing 31 minutes for the Cats, he was just as present on defense and as he was on offense.
The Cats’ Bigs showed up for a game that had BBN nervously speculating on how team would answer questions about an already scarce front court. BBN can breathe a sigh of relief.
