No. 13 ranked Kentucky takes their four-game winning streak to Auburn Saturday night, taking on the Tigers in another tough road test.
While doing game prep for Auburn, UK Head Coach John Calipari still feels it is also important for the players to keep doing conditioning drills in order to get to where they want to be on the court, even if it is tough to get through.
“You have to fight,” Calipari said. “By the end of the year, you have to have guys that when they’re on that floor, they’re playing as superior athletes.”
While this matchup against Auburn could potentially be big on both résumés, Calipari feels every game is big on their schedule, especially since they are the marquee opponent for every team they go up against.
“Every game is the same for us,” Calipari said. “Our job is to go in, do what we do, play how we play, and you’re going to have to play with great energy every night, because if you don’t, you get beat.”
In this type of road atmosphere, the Cats have to be ready for anything, and Calipari made emphasis on the team being ready for flops, and keeping composure to avoid a cheap foul.
“How do I flop around? How do I get my guy to flop, flop, flop?” Calipari said the other team’s strategy might be. “You can’t have dumb fouls.”
Auburn was one of the last teams to remain undefeated in college basketball before losing two conference games (now 18-2 overall, 5-2 in the SEC), but is yet to lose a game at home (11-0). UK Head Coach John Calipari says their record speaks for itself.
“They play hard,” Calipari said. “They’re a top-20 team for a reason. They won their first 15 games for a reason, because they’re good.”
College Gameday is in Auburn for the game, as it shall be another wild atmosphere that the Cats will have to battle hard through again to grab another road victory.
