Kentucky senior outside linebacker Jamar “Boogie” Watson has already been named to an award watch list for this coming college football season.
This afternoon, the skilled defensive playmaker was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, an award that honors the defensive player of the year in college football. The award may sound familiar, as UK star linebacker Josh Allen won it after the 2018-19 season.
Watson has the most career sacks of any player returning in the SEC this coming season as he continues to follow the foot steps of past elite UK linebackers. He has totaled 13.5 sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss throughout 38 career games and 18 career starts in three seasons so far at Kentucky.
Most of his eye-popping numbers came from last year in his junior season, as he recorded a team-high 11.5 tackles for loss and seven QB hurries to go along with 6.5 sacks (second most on the team). His numbers last season earned him a spot on the Pro Football Focus All-SEC Third Team.
With Watson’s talent and potential for further growth, I would not be surprised to see him on an All-SEC list by the end of this coming season.
