If you listened to the Cameron Mills Show this past week – which you should have but if you didn’t you can still listen to the podcast at FOXSPORTS1580.com – you would have heard (the winningest) UK Volleyball Coach Craig Skinner give the correct pronunciation of my favorite position on the volleyball court. The Bro.
So as to not bore you with the intricacies of volleyball, I will give you this most basic definition:
THE BRO. (n). THE DEFENSE – who wears a different colored shirt and is responsible for keeping every ball that comes across the net in play.
And why dear reader would I want to share with you this information? Because the University of Kentucky has one of the best ones in the SEC, if not the NCAA.
Senior Jackie Napper – from here on referred to as the Bro – has been named SEC Defensive Player of the Week. And it’s not just the first time. It’s for the second time in a row. That’s twice in two weeks. This is our Bro’s third time to win this award and the first UK player to repeat with this honor since September 2011 (Stephanie Klefot). It was earned by totaling 44 digs in two matches with an average of 5.18 digs per set – that’s a BIG BRO stat line. When she wasn’t busy getting low, she also had time to make a kill (how great is that stat name) and give out seven assists. That is a very busy Bro.
So congratulations to our (BBN’s) own Big Bro Ms. Jackie Napper. Thank you for your incredible week of work
and we look forward to you and the UK Volleyball teams continued successes throughout the rest of the season. Go Big Bro (Blue)!
