Walker Wood is a 6’1″ 187 pound dual threat quarterback who committed to the University of Kentucky on October 15, 2015. Walker is a former teammate of current UK Freshman and 5* recruit, Landon Young and current teammate of Jedrick Wills, who is also a 5* recruit on the offensive line. He committed to the Wildcats over Cincinnati, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and others. Walker, who is being recruited as an athlete, can play multiple positions at the next level, but will be given a shot to compete at the quarterback position.
Walker is considered a 3* recruit, 24th ranked dual threat QB, and 7th ranked player out of the state of Kentucky according to 247sports. While the Cats will have a lot of choices at the quarterback position with guys like Drew Barker, Gunner Hoak, Stephen Johnson, and Mac Jones, I am told by one of his high school coaches that he is one of the hardest working players he has been around and is extremely competitive and will have a legitimate shot at the quarterback position. The coach also stated that even if Walker has to play a different position, he will find a spot and a way to contribute greatly to the team. Be sure to give Walker a follow on twitter and show the support of the Big Blue Nation at Walker Wood. With that, here is how the interview went. Enjoy guys and gals.
DC: Only a Junior, you have already committed to play for Kentucky. Why were you able to make that decision so early in the process?
Walker: The biggest thing is that it just felt like the right place and fit for me at the next level. Another major factor was the family aspect of it as they really make you feel like part of a family at UK. The coaches and other people in the program really do treat you like family.
DC: There have been a lot of questions concerning what position you will play at the next level. Are you being recruited as a quarterback?
Walker: Kentucky recruited me as an athlete, but have told me I will get my chance to compete at the quarterback position.
DC: You have been blessed to play behind a very impressive offensive line in high school with guys like Landon Young and Jedrick Wills. Did the chance to play with a potentially great offensive line at UK play a big factor in your decision?
Walker: Yes sir, definitely. Mark Stoops and the people surrounding him was also a big factor, as well as the chance to play with Landon Young again and play behind guys like Young, Drake Jackson, and new commit Austin Dotson.
DC: Are you actively recruiting others to join you at UK?
Walker: Yes sir, and I want to be a lead recruiter for the UK 2017 class.
DC: Would you like to share a message with the Big Blue Nation Walker?
Walker: I am very excited to join the family at UK and play for the Big Blue Nation, and I plan to help take UK Football to new heights.
