Andrew Cunningham Interview

Andrew Cunningham is a 6’0″, 195 pound safety/running back out of Tampa, Florida. Playing for Cambridge Christian School, he is in the class of 2018 and has already garnered interest from several Power 5 conference schools. Andrew currently has a total of 7 scholarship offers,  including one he received from our own Kentucky Wildcats on May 11th. Other schools who have offered Andrew include Louisville, N.C. State, Southern Miss, Florida International, and Middle Tennessee State.

Without question, Andrew will receive many more offers before his high school career is over, and some of them will come from other big time college powerhouses. He has already attracted interest from schools such as Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Clemson, South Carolina, and others. Andrew received his first scholarship offer on June 11, 2015 from Middle Tennessee State, then came Louisville on February 17, 2016.  Southern Miss offered on February 21, 2016, Liberty offered February 25, 2016, N.C. State offered May 04, 2016, Florida International offered May 08, 2016, and Kentucky offered May 11, 2016. On April 27, 2016 Andrew was visited by Lawrence Dawsey of the Florida State Seminoles.

Andrew is teammates with Richard Gouraige, who is considered one of the best offensive linemen in the country. There is a legitimate chance the two end up being a package type deal as they are really close friends and both have been offered by similar schools at this point. Andrew himself even went as far as to admit the likelihood of the two playing together at the next level, which you will read below in our Q&A session. After doing so, be sure to go follow this young man on Twitter and show him the love of the Big Blue Nation here.

DC: You recently received an offer from the Kentucky Wildcats, so my question is where do you stand as far as Kentucky goes?

Andrew: I really like Coach Hinshaw, and he is giving me a chance. We talked at school and he said he really likes how I play. I am gong to be taking Kentucky into consideration for sure, and I really like the academic and athletic programs at Kentucky

DC: You currently sit at 7 scholarship offers including Kentucky, Louisville, N.C. State, and Southern Miss and with two more years of high school left,  many more will follow. What has your recruitment and the offers meant to you?

Andrew: Oh it makes me very proud to know that I have put in the work and it is paying off. It has been such a blessing, and knowing that the coaches believe in me is a blessing too

DC: It’s early in your recruitment, but do you have a list of top schools you are interested in at this point?

Andrew: I am very wide open at this point.

DC: You play both safety and running back in high school, but which position would you prefer to play at the next level?

Andrew: I love playing running back, but safety or even outside linebacker is more likely where I will play at the next level.

DC: At this point, which position are you being recruited for the most?

Andrew: I am really being recruited as an athlete.

DC: Do you have any kind of time table set for when you would like to trim your list or make a commitment?

Andrew: I would really like to narrow it down probably going into my Junior year. It’s a grown man decision and I want to have it trimmed down to where I can focus on a set number of schools and spend more time on the football season.

DC: Lastly, do you talk with any other recruits about teaming up together at the collegiate level?

Andrew: Richard Gouraige and me talk about teaming up in college all the time. Wherever one of us goes, there is a legit chance the other one will follow, but at the same time we have to go to which school is the best fit for us individually also.
