John Short celebrates 51 years of being a “Great American” today. He will spend the day listening to sports radio, a little conservative radio, probably take the critter (Eliie Mae) for a walk and will eat dinner with family at Shakespeare and Co. in Lexington. Nothing extraordinary but according to John, “It’s going to be a humdinger of a day.”
On a patio table at Suggins two years ago I met John. I had pen and paper in hand to make notes for the story I was writing. Two and half hours later as I rose from the table my notepad was empty but my heart had never been as full.
John and I talk at least once a week. It doesn’t matter what kind of day I am having he always puts a smile on my face. He is never negative and always looks at the glass half full instead of half empty. We could all learn a lot from John.
I tried to be the first to call and wish him a Happy Birthday today (as he does me) but John rises too early for me. He was already up with radio turned on ready to begin his day.
If you happen to see John out today be sure to wish him a Happy Birthday or tweet him @johnpshort05.
In the words of John……”there you go!”
