No Food, No Memorial, No Problem

The first participants arrived at 6:45 a.m. Sunday morning. When registration opened at 11 a.m. the line was as far as you could see. When the final participant checked in there were over 1,000 strong in Rupp Arena for Coach Cal’s 8th Women’s Clinic.

I will admit I was somewhat concerned as I checked Twitter before heading to Rupp Arena on Sunday. There were tweets of disappointment of not having a meal served, no player availability and worries about the move from Memorial to Rupp.

Needless to say, there was not a frown on a face when I entered Rupp Arena. There was the usual line to get Cal’s autograph and a surprise appearance (for autographs) from Alex that seemed to ease the minds of the BBN faithful.

Coach Cal, dressed in pink shirt and shoes (which he later gave away as door prizes), welcomed the crowd and immediately presented a $10,000 check to the Markey Cancer Center. The donation was made from funds not used to purchase meals for participants. There was no more grumbling about the crackers, candy and bottled water each participant received.

The locker room was available throughout the clinic and the women took full advantage of the opportunity. Attendees laid in the middle of the floor, crawled in lockers, stood in shower stalls and possibly tried to get into the hot tubs.

This year did not disappoint. The crowd roared when Coach Cal asked if they liked having the clinic at Rupp.

I am sure the clinic will return to Rupp Arena next year. I am also sure Coach Cal will up his game to include something new.

Big Blue Madness, Blue/White game and the Women’s Clinic are all in the books.
It is time to get this party started!
