The NBA Summer League got off to a good start for some former Cats today in Orlando. Three former Wildcats were in action, but Malik Monk remained idle while recovering from an ankle sprain.
The opening game for the day featured the Charlotte Hornets against the Miami Heat. Charlotte won the game 74-67, but Heat fans had to love the performance by rookie Bam Adebayo. Bam had a solid stat line of 14 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks, 1 steal, and only 1 turnover. While none of the “experts” predicted Adebayo as a lottery pick, Pat Riley was excited to get the former Wildcat, promising fans “his jersey is going to be hanging up in the rafters.” For full highlights of Bam’s debut game, check out the video below:
Also in action in today’s final game in Orlando was Dakari Johnson (Oklahoma City) and Derek Willis (Detroit). Dakari recorded a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds), along with 1 assist and 1 block as the Thunder edged out Detroit 92-91. Derek Willis played only 2 minutes, but made the most of his time scoring 2 points, grabbing 2 rebounds, and even added 2 steals and 1 assist. Hopefully, this efficient performance will result in Willis getting more playing time as the league continues play tomorrow.
