Bam and Goodwin Only Cats Remaining in Playoffs

The second round of the summer league playoffs saw most of the former Cats eliminated from the competition, while others survived to play another day.  After a day off on Friday, the quarterfinals will begin on Saturday.

New Orleans was eliminated from the playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs, 86-84.  For his last outing in the summer league, James Young didn’t have his best game.  He ended the game with 5 points and 4 rebounds but also had 3 turnovers.

For the second straight game, Bam Adebayo didn’t play, but Miami won anyway, ousting the Clippers 91-84.  Kyle Wiltjer’s summer league came to an end with the Clippers loss.  Kyle had 7 points on 3-7 shooting (1-4 from beyond the arc).  Wiltjer had goose eggs in all the other stat categories (rebounds, steals, assists, blocks, and turnovers).

Archie Goodwin’s summer season will continue at least one more game as the Brooklyn Nets defeated the Denver Nuggets 85-74.  Goodwin had a nice game with 8 points, 4 boards, 1 assist, and 1 block.  While he did have 4 turnovers, his overall game balanced that out and his performance with the Nets during this league play has been solid.

De’Aaron Fox returned to action Thursday night after injuring his right ankle Monday.  His return only lasted 7 minutes, however as he tweaked the ankle again and left the game for good with 2 points and 3 assists.

Dominique Hawkins saw action again in what turned out to be the Kings’ final game of the tournament, as the Mavericks eliminated Sacramento, 83-76.   Dom’s numbers (2 points, 3 boards) don’t tell the story of his play as he played great defense, gaining the praise of the television commentators.  Hawkins did have a scary moment (he did return before the end of the game):

Though he had a very solid summer season, Skal Labissiere had a quiet night, scoring 4 points and pulling down 2 rebounds.

Mychal Mulder did not see any action in the Raptors’ 91-85 loss to Portland.  Toronto has now been eliminated from the playoffs.

Lonzo Ball was back in action as the Lakers took on the undefeated Cavaliers.   While the Cavs lead for a good portion of the 1st half, the Lakers came back and ousted Cleveland, 94-83.  Ball had another triple-double (16 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists), and added 5 steals and 2 blocks.  His 7 turnovers accounted for half of the Lakers’ miscues.  The Lakers will face off against Brooklyn in the quarterfinals.
