Thirty some years ago the CATS destroyed Louisville and a few days later (New Years Eve) were beaten badly by a Georgia team in Freedom Hall.
There were quite a few times during the game I thought to myself, please do not let history repeat itself.
The crowd at Rupp did their job. The fans repeatedly cheered trying to ignite energy in the sluggish Cats.
This was not the same team that handed it to Louisville just 48 hours ago in this same arena.
It was a game that took the turn that we all feared. The team seemed to still be basking in the glory of the Louisville win.
Georgia slugged, mugged and robbed through the first thirty minutes and then the Cats woke up. A thirty second call against Georgia sparked the crowd and the team. The GO BIG BLUE chant was the loudest I had heard in Rupp in a long time.
The crowd “willed” this team tonight. This young group needed it. The whole arena roared and they responded. The best atmosphere I have seen at a game in a long time. Blonde hairs, brown hairs, blue hairs and green hairs were on their feet.
History was not repeated tonight. Kentucky closes out 2017 with a win.
Happy New Year from the Cameron Mills Radio Staff. Thank you for all of your continued support.
