Kentucky Gymnastics falls to Georgia on Father/Daughter Night

Daughter (Lauren Brown, age 9):

On February 9th I went to see Kentucky vs. Georgia compete in gymnastics. Personally, I think UK had their hardest apparatus was the balance beam because Sidney Dukes and Alaina Kwan both fell. The team also had issues when Cori Rechenmacher fell on the uneven bars. When Alaina fell, she got a 9.200 and when Sidney fell, she got a 9.050.

During this night it was Daddy Daughter Night and they randomly picked daddies and daughters to dance. They also had a randomly picked American Girl doll UK giveaway. When I was Media I got to get up close to the gymnasts and realized about how hard it is to do all their moves. I’ve also noticed that they put so much work into their progress that they deserve to win ever single game. When you are close to them you realize that the Flips, Cartwheels, handstands, and Round-offs are so high.

For the second straight year, the University of Kentucky Gymnastics team hosted a Father/Daughter Date night on the Friday before Valentine’s Day. While the Cats were able to defeat Alabama for the first time ever last year, the Georgia Bulldogs were victorious this year and won the meet by a score of 196.150 – 195.550. The meet was as close as you would expect between two top programs, UK entered the meet ranked #6 and UGA was ranked #13. The difference, as noted by Lauren, was that the Wildcats had three ladies fall off their apparatus. When the teams are so evenly matched, the smallest miscues can prove too big to overcome.

The Wildcats will head to Alabama next week and the Bulldogs will host Florida. Kentucky falls to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the SEC. There’s still plenty of time to clean things up for Coach Tim Garrison and the Cats to keep pace in the SEC race and build on last year’s final NCAA ranking of 14.

As usual, this Father had a great time with his Daughter while covering Kentucky Gymnastics. We cannot wait for next year!
