Max Duffy Named to Ray’s 8, Candidate for Punter of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky punter Max Duffy has been named one of Ray’s 8 for week 11, the second time he has earned recognition as producing one of the top eight punting performances in the nation, it was announced by the Ray Guy Award on Monday.

Duffy punted seven times in the Wildcats’ game at Tennessee over the weekend, averaging 46.0 yards per punt while placing four inside the Volunteers’ 20-yard line. Duffy boomed a 56-yarder as his longest of the day and added a 51-yard and two 45-yard punts.

The Ray Guy Punter of the Week Award will be announced on Wednesday. Fans can tweet to the Ray Guy Award supporting Duffy and building his case for why he should win this week’s award. A poll for fans also will be available on Twitter.

Duffy, a first-year sophomore from Perth, Australia, has had a sensational season to this point. He ranks third in the Southeastern Conference and 10th nationally in punting at 45.2 yards per punt. The average is currently the second-highest in UK history for a single-season, trailing only Glenn Pakulak’s 2002 campaign when he averaged 45.58 yards per kick.

Earlier this season Duffy set two single-game school records with his 48.70 average in the Cats’ game at Texas A&M. The mark is the highest single-game average by any UK punter with minimums of eight and 10 punts per game. He also was on the Ray’s 8 list for his effort in Kentucky’s Sept. 29 win over South Carolina.

The Cats return to the field this Saturday at noon when they play host to Middle Tennessee at Kroger Field. The game will air on the SEC Network’s alternate channel.
