Kentucky Players’ Summer League Stats – Through July 5

All 30 NBA teams along with a couple of international squads converged on Las Vegas for the MGM Resorts Summer League that began Friday and will continue through July 15. What started as an exciting night of basketball was cut short in the Thomas & Mack Arena after a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in California was felt and caused the giant video board and speakers to sway significantly. New Orleans vs. New York was suspended after 3 quarters and Denver vs. Phoenix has been postponed for now. Initially, officials had indicated the games in Cox Pavilion could continue, but they decided to suspend the Spurs – Magic game at the end of the 3rd quarter.

As expected, PJ Washington who had been listed as doubtful for the league did not play Friday. Kevin Knox was in action and 17 points and 8 rebounds before the game was halted. His stats have not been updated pending completion of the game. Keldon Johnson also had his game suspended. After 3 quarters, he had played 14 minutes and scored 2 points while grabbing 5 rebounds. His stats have not been updated, either. Derek Willis and Jarred Vanderbilt were expected to see action, but that will be on hold until their games are rescheduled.

Tyler Herro kept doing Boy Wonder type things as he tallied 23 points in 23 minutes of play in Miami’s win over China. Twelve of those points came in just 6 minutes of play in the 2nd half. Also of note, Tyler continues to shine from the free throw line with a perfect 9-9 on Friday (14-14 in all summer league games thus far). Herro rounded out his stat line with 2 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4 assists.

Mychal Mulder saw limited action with Chicago and had 4 points and 4 rebounds in 12 minutes of play.

Here’s hoping Mother Nature cooperates tomorrow and that no structural damage was done to the arenas.
