Kentucky Players’ Summer League Stats – Through July 10

Summer League is beginning to wind down as Wednesday was the next-to-last day of regular play with the “knockout” round beginning on Friday. Only 5 Cats were in action tonight and no more than 5 will be in action tomorrow. So this is the time to enjoy your Cats while you can!

Mychal Mulder had a reasonably quiet afternoon scoring 3 points and grabbing 1 rebound in his 21 minutes of play. In his 4 games during league play, he has averaged 7.5 points and 3 rebounds. It’s difficult to say what the Bulls will decide about Mulder’s future with the team.

Meanwhile, easily one of the best performers in the entire league has been Tyler Herro. In tonight’s game versus Minnesota, the Heat suffered their first loss in league play, 90-87. Tyler had 15 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. But the most striking number might be that Herro was 0-0 from the FT line. Was that the difference between a win and a loss for the Heat?

Keldon Johnson played 24 minutes for the Spurs in their win over Phoenix. He managed to get 7 points and 2 rebounds, which was below his league average in both categories. A nice positive for Johnson is his 80% free-throw shooting for the summer. Derek Willis did not play for the Suns tonight, so there were no instances of Cat-on-Cat crime.

The previously-winless Knicks met the winless Lakers and defeated them rather handily. Kevin Knox had an excellent outing scoring 25 points and getting 7 rebounds and 3 assists during his 24 minutes of play. Knox was 9-12 from the free-throw line, keeping his season average at 75%. After a night of ill-advised 3-point attempts, Kevin only ventured behind the line for 5 attempts tonight, making 2 of those.

In Wednesday’s nightcap, Jarred Vanderbilt posted another double-double for the Nuggets. In 30 minutes, Jarred scored 20 points, pulled down 17 rebounds, and added 3 steals as well as 3 assists. If you wanted to ding his game, the 6 turnovers he had were not ideal, but he had such a complete game, it’s hard to give him too much grief over those miscues. After tonight’s performance, Jarred is now averaging a double-double for the summer (12 PPG, 12 RPG).
