The Last Gathering…Perhaps

For years Larry Vaught would say to me, “you have to come to the UK Ohio Convention. I can think of nothing you would rather do than spend the day with UK fans just like you.”

Four years ago I made the trip to Franklin Ohio for my first Ohio UK Convention. I was not disappointed in fact I was amazed. Over 125 gathered at Eastview Baptist Church, filling the pews and the aisles with chairs. There was not one specific age group represented. The common factor was love for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Since that day I have been fortunate to continue to attend the convention. James Porter, organizer of the event for 30 years, puts together an agenda that yearly exceeds expectations. James runs a tight ship. Each speaker or panel is given a set time frame and James makes sure they stay on task.

This years convention will take place this Saturday, July 20th at Eastview Baptist Church in Franklin Ohio. Speakers include Maci Morris, Reggie Hanson, Larry Vaught, Tony Neely, Ryan Lemond, Tom Leach, Mike Pratt and yours truly.

Fellowship begins at 8:30 am and the program will start promptly at 9:00. There will be a break for lunch from 12:00-1:30 and then the afternoon session will commence.

It is rumored that this will be the last time James Porter will coordinate the event. This could also mean it will be the final hoorah.

I encourage you to avoid the heat and make your way to Franklin Ohio Saturday. The heat indices will be in the extreme range so why not chill with over 100 members of the BBN and at the same time get to listen to some of your favorites. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Spoiler alert: bring some tissues, the convention opens with the singing of My Old Kentucky Home recorded at Rupp.

If you haven’t registered, no problem. Mr. Porter has assured no-one will be turned away.
