The hype train for Ronald Acuna Jr had been rumbling down the tracks for a while. He blew right through the Braves minor league system and joined the big club after 259 games. He promptly hit .293 with 26 home runs, 64 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 111 games. That earned him the N.L. Rookie of the Year Award.
How do you follow that up in year two?
In his 129th game of his second season, Acuna punched his ticket into the 30/30 club.
Mike Trout is that guy in MLB, and if he played on the east coast his greatness would be magnified even more. Ronald Acuna Jr just joined him as the only other guy to join the 30/30 club before age 22.
He also joins elite Braves company with this accomplishment.
Hank Aaron is everybody’s guy no matter how old you are. Dale Murphy was the reason I became a Braves fan at age 7. Ron Gant was my favorite player after Murph left. To see the young phenom join this list is really cool.
Acuna’s feat was made doubly sweet because it came in a Braves win, they outlasted the Mets 2-1 in 14 innings. Congrats to RAJ on his 30/30. The potential for more seasons like this is evident. Today is August 24, a 40/40 campaign isn’t out of the question for this year.
