Columbia Is Going to Be A Lot Like Starkville

Minus the cowbells, and assuming the Gamecocks are still buying what Will Muschamp is selling.

Kentucky (2-2, 0-2 SEC) let one loss become two in last Saturday’s 28-13 loss at Mississippi State, and are now looking to prevent two losses from becoming three when they head to Columbia to face South Carolina (1-3, 0-2 SEC) Saturday night at 7:30 PM. In his post game press conference, Mark Stoops spoke about not having the team ready to play and not seeing any signs that they wouldn’t be ready to play as the week of practice progressed. Sometimes it happens that way, sometimes vice versa is true when the week of practice leaves lots to be desired and the team goes out and plays a great game.

Mississippi State was coming off of a loss and looking to get that bad taste out of their mouth. The pick six got them on the board quickly and fueled the fire that’s caused Starkville to continue to be a house of horrors for Kentucky dating back to 2008. South Carolina has lost five in a row to Kentucky and have only beaten lowly Charleston Southern to this point. Their schedule is brutal and they are definitely looking at Kentucky as a win, just as they have the last five years. They will be even more desperate for a win that the Bulldogs were.

Outside of Georgia, the SEC East isn’t exactly setting the world on fire. Yes, Kentucky lost a lot of great players last year and have lost Terry Wilson this year but they still didn’t expect to find themselves in the cellar. But that’s where they are. The inability to finish down the stretch against Florida and the dreadful start at Mississippi State make it imperative that the Cats play a complete game versus the Gamecocks.

That’s the right mindset, just have to execute it.
