The Eastern Kentucky Colonels made the trip down 75 to meet up with the soon to be ranked #1 Kentucky Wildcats. It was the 13th meeting between the two schools with Kentucky being the victor in all previous games.
Coming off the win over #1 Michigan State it was hard to predict how the CATS would come out of the gate. For the average team it would be predictable for this game to be one without focus and intensity but this is no average team. This is the #1 team in college basketball.
This was Nick Richard’s night.
The celebrated performance of Maxey Tuesday night overshadowed the play of “Junior” Nick Richards. Tonight was his night. He played with passion, poise and confidence. His hook shot connected and he owned the rim. This is the Nick Richards that Kentucky needs to be a complete team this year.
Keion Brooks made is presence known tonight in his first regular season game at Rupp. His length and agility is going to make it difficult to keep him on the pine for extended periods of time.
Johnny Juzang got quality playing time tonight but was unable to establish himself as the shooter on this team. His shot will come and his defense will develop as the season progresses.
Thank you Bucknell for sending us Nate Sestina. The guy is a warrior. Battling for rebounds, pushing and shoving in the paint. The graduate transfer rule has two years in a row proven to be a plus for the CATS.
This is only the second game of the season. The first game we beat the #1 ranked team. Tonight the CATS showed no hangover. That is a sign of maturity and it is only November. The ceiling is high for this team and fans will enjoy watching the climb.
