SEC Regular-Season Title Holder Kentucky Racks Up SEC Honors

After winning the SEC regular-season title by three games, Kentucky racked up the postseason conference awards.

The most prestigious player award in the conference, SEC Player of the Year, was won by sophomore guard Immanuel Quickley, who finished the season with a team-high 16.1 PPG and shot 41.6% from the field overall, including 42.8% from the three-point line. He also finished first in the league in free-throw percentage at 92.3%.

Quickley is the ninth player to win the award in UK history, and fifth in 11 seasons under John Calipari.

Speaking of UK Head Coach John Calipari, he won the SEC Coach of the Year award for the fourth time in his tenure at Kentucky. Calipari has now won the award as conference coach of the year in 10 of his 28 seasons as a head coach.

Junior forward Nick Richards, who finished the season averaging 14.0 PPG, 7.8 RPG and 64.4% shooting from the field, joined Immanuel Quickley on the All-SEC First Team. Freshman guard Tyrese Maxey earned a spot on the All-SEC Second Team.

On the defensive end, sophomore guard Ashton Hagans, who was the 2019 SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, earned a spot on the All-SEC Defensive Team for the second consecutive season. Hagans finished the season averaging 1.9 steals per game, and was constantly a menace in the regular season defending the ball.

Nick Richards, who has been Kentucky’s rim protector as he averaged 2.1 blocks per game, also earned a spot on the All-SEC Defensive Team.

The Cats go into the postseason with plenty of regular season awards, and still a lot of momentum from a strong finish to the season.

Next up is the SEC Tournament, as UK will face the winner of Tennessee and Alabama on Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and 12 p.m. Central Standard Time in Nashville.
