Junior college linebacker Joko Willis committed to Kentucky this afternoon, joining a 2021 recruiting class that is steadily growing for the Cats. The three-star chose Kentucky over Mississippi State, Arkansas and Kansas State.
Willis, from Lagrange, GA, played this past season at Independence Community College in Kansas, a school known for being featured in the Netflix show Last Chance U. UK coach Jon Sumrall, who will be Willis’ position coach at UK, recruited him to the Cats.
The juco inside linebacker announced his decision via Twitter:
“I am thankful and grateful to everybody who has helped me further my education and football athleticism. I want to thank Coach Tanner Glisson and Troup High. I want to thank Coach Harris and the Indy family. With this being said, I would like to announce that I will be furthering my education and football abilities to the University of Kentucky.”
Kentucky has been successful when reaching to the juco level, most notably with ZaDarius Smith who is now at the Green Bay Packers, and also the presumed starting QB for next season Terry Wilson. As an inside linebacker, Willis could play an important role when he comes to Lexington as the current players at that position graduate or leave early to the NFL.
