UK senior Australian punter Max Duffy was named 2020-21 Preseason First-Team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation this Thursday. Duffy was a Walter Camp First-Team All-American after the 2019-20 season, as he led the nation with 48.10 yards per punt.
For an offense that had struggles when it could not get much from the running game last season, Duffy often saved the team from losing the field position battle. His rugby-style punting that is often taught in his native country Australia has worked to near perfection. Duffy holds the ball often times long enough for his teammates to get to the returner without giving the player a chance to break loose.
His patience scanning the rush in the backfield once led to him running with ease for a first down last season against Missouri which can be seen at the 1:10 mark of this highlight video of UK’s win versus the Tigers:
Now going into his final season of eligibility for the Cats, Max Duffy’s punting will once again do wonders for Kentucky. He is another valuable returner in a team that will have a ton of playing experience.
