Max Duffy continues to bring in the preseason accolades building off his impressive performance throughout his first two seasons at Kentucky. After just recently being named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-American First-Team, the Australian punter was named a Preseason First-Team All-American by Sporting News.
Duffy’s rugby-style punting has been absolutely magical when the Kentucky offense has sputtered. He led the nation with 48.10 yards per punt last season, and as a team Kentucky led the nation with 44.55-yard net average on each punt. His patience as he scans the rush from the opposing team and how fast his teammates are getting down the field before he punts the ball does wonders for Kentucky in the battle of field position. Duffy won the Ray Guy Award as the nation’s top punter last season along with many more accolades due to how efficient he has been.
Here is a video on YouTube from the 2018 season showing the effectiveness of Duffy’s punting:
Sporting News is one of the five media outlets that puts out preseason All-American teams, and with how good Duffy has been at UK along with being named to the first-team of the two publications that have determined them so far, it is hard to imagine the Aussie punter not being named to the next three yet to come out.
