Kentucky is in the running for another highly-rated defensive lineman from the state of Michigan.
Class of 2021 five-star Damon Payne is considered to have the Cats near the top of the list of colleges he plan to play football at. The incoming star defensive tackle announced Friday afternoon he will decide on July 26 which school he plans to attend.
Here is Payne’s tweet announcing his decision date:
Thank you to all the schools that have offered me I will be announcing my commitment on July 26th

The defensive tackle would be quite a big-time recruit for the Cats to get a commitment from, as he is the No. 1 defensive tackle in the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. Kentucky joins Alabama, USC and Arizona State as the schools perceived to be at the top of the list.
If Payne does commit to the Cats, this would be the second season in a row that UK has gotten a five-star defensive lineman out of Michigan (Justin Rogers). He is yet another huge recruit that Kentucky defensive backs coach Steve Clinksdale, who also recruited Rogers to UK, has drawn significant interest from.
Kentucky has done an amazing job recruiting both for the offensive line and defensive line, and this latest interest from Payne shows the continuing recognition of the success the Cats have had in the Mark Stoops era.
