UK Athletics released an update on Monday afternoon dealing with the return to activity for the six sports that have arrived on campus, as well as one more that is in the process of arriving in Lexington.
The university continues to test regularly for Covid-19 as they monitor the situation surrounding the pandemic’s effect in the state and across the country. Of the six sports that have arrived on campus and gone through the initial Coronavirus screening process — football, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, men’s basketball, volleyball, and swimming and diving — three of the 60 returning athletes have tested positive for past infection of Covid-19 and two have tested positive through PCR testing for current infection of the virus.
Those currently infected have followed quarantine guidelines set by the CDC and Kentucky health officials. Of the 25 essential staff that have arrived on campus to participate in voluntary workouts with the various teams, one member tested positive and was required to quarantine in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
The UK women’s basketball team is in the midst of arriving on campus and going through the initial Covid-19 screening process before beginning voluntary workouts.
