Recently, the African American and Africana Studies Program at UK filed a letter to the University of Kentucky president’s office requesting changes to further improve race relations at the school, including the re-naming of Rupp Arena.
In light of the letter and the reaction from the public, I interviewed Professor Derrick White, a faculty member of the AAAS Program, via zoom to hear further reasoning for these requested changes. The call to change the name of Rupp Arena is a big topic of discussion, but we also talk about the other requests in the letter.
