The Southeastern Conference has unveiled its Covid-19 safety protocols for this coming fall sports season.
According to the press release which was put out on Friday morning, members of each football team will receive PCR Covid-19 testing twice a week from an independent third party organization, typically six days and three days before competing against another squad. Volleyball and soccer athletes will also receive two tests per week.
A mask mandate will also be put into effect in the SEC — all coaches, staff and non-competing personnel will be required to wear a face covering on the sideline along with the demand for social distancing to the extent most possible.
Each school must also designate a Covid-19 Protocol Oversight Officer who is in charge of educating and enforcing the standards set by the league.
Later today, the SEC is scheduled to announce the two additional conference opponents added to each football team’s schedule. Stay tuned.
