KHSAA Boys’ Basketball Sweet 16 Matchups Are Set

The 2021 KHSAA Men’s Basketball Tournament will kick off this week following the conclusion of many regional championships across the Bluegrass State. Some of the best teams throughout the regular season, including No. 1 Covington Catholic and No. 3 Lexington Catholic (rankings according to Prep Spin), were upset leaving chances for some unlikely contesters.

Starting off Wednesday, March 31:

  • 11 a.m. – Knott County Central (Fifth Region) vs. Elizabethtown (14th Region)
  • 2 a.m. – University Heights (Second Region) vs. Bowling Green (Fourth Region)
  • 5 p.m. – Ballard (Seventh Region) vs. Madison Central (11th Region)
  • 8 p.m. – Oldham County (Eighth Region) vs. George Rogers Clark (Tenth Region)

Thursday, April 1st:

  • 11 a.m. – Highlands (Ninth Region) vs. Muhlenberg County (Third Region)
  • 2 p.m. – McCraken County (First Region) vs. Desales (Sixth Region)
  • 5 p.m. – Paintsville (15th region) vs. Boyle County (12th region)
  • 8 p.m. – Ashland Blazer (16th region) vs. Knox Central (Ninth Region)

The tournament will be held once again in Rupp Arena and last from March 31-April 3. Elizabethtown High School (19-2 record), which happens to be the rival of where I went (Central Hardin), seems to be the favorite going into the tournament. With that said, Ashland Blazer will be coming in with vengeance after going into the Sweet 16 undefeated last year before it was canceled due to Coronavirus concerns, and Madison Central will be making their first trip since winning the title in 2013.

Let’s play ball.
